Welcome to the SoiréeSmith blog!
This is a journal about the weddings and events we do here in Chicago's North Shore, with some tips and a bit about life sprinkled in.
Stay a while and please say hello!

Hi, I'm andrea.

A Living Coral Pantone 2019 colour of the year wedding.

Mar 9, 2020

You may recognize many of these magical photos from Tim & Bethany Tabailloux (affectionately known as Tim Tab Studios). Over this past year anytime I shared them ( Carats & Cake and PartySlate ) – they got some extra love and shares in the “virtual” world thanks to being very on-trend by (accidentally – we picked the colour palate in 2018) incorporating 2019’s Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral as one of the colours in their wedding.

And I can think of no better day to walk you all down memory lane than today, Rachel & Tyler’s first wedding anniversary!

Bride and Groom

If all my couples (and their families) were as lovely, light-hearted, delightfully entertaining and relaxed as Rachel & Tyler were to work with – I’d have a difficult time not taking on more weddings than I should really ever do.  I will never forget my first call with Rachel, Tyler and her parents (I was actually on vacation back home in Canada) – and the moment I got off the phone I was downright giddy at the opportunity to work with them.

Rachel was a North Shore gal who had grown up in Kenilworth, and Tyler a Minnesota guy – Midwest was truly best here! When we first started working together, they were still deciding on a location (toying between a hotel vs. a standalone venue). Ultimately, they settled on the Skyline Loft at Bridgeport Art Center and it was truly a perfect spot for the two of them.

Rachel & Tyler’s aesthetic was super fun to work with. Rachel was not afraid of colour, but yet was seeking an understated and candle-lit feel to be super prevalent through-out.  We settled on working with Brittney and the fabulous team at Revel to bring their vision to reality. The colour combination was striking, with a heavy focus on greenery, a hint of white, and a beautiful mix of coral, pinks and peachy-orange.

The morning of the wedding when we arrived at the Kimpton Gray, the ladies were getting perfectly primped by the talents of Megan of Hollibeauty and Joanna of Joanna B Artistry. It was clear these ladies have been friends for a very long time and the joy was palpable.  The Groom’s step-mom had placed adorable photos the bride and groom growing up in each of the spaces while they were getting ready. It was such a touching and sentimental gesture.

Oh and CUE the waterworks for what was the most touching Father Daughter reveal I’ve witnessed yet.

Tyler, who won best groom of 2019 – when looking at the forecast took it upon himself to secure a last-minute photography permit for the Rookery Building the week of the wedding! As it turns out some of my favourite images of the day.

It was such a relaxed day, with family portraits at Bridgeport prior to the ceremony done and out of the way, we were ready for all the festivies to unfold.  The ceremony was beautiful and heartfelt, the reception guests noshed on the delicious cuisine of Limelight & enjoyed the Snapbooth while we worked on flipping the ceremony space to the beautiful and romantic dinner setup.

When Rachel & Tyler first told me they really wanted a DJ but were slightly nervous that they “should have” (don’t you just hate how those words so frequently come into play when planning a wedding?) a band – I immediately knew who the answer would be: DJ Megan Taylor of Fig Media. I personally feel Megan is one of the strongest DJ’s our city has to offer (and their dancefloor that night sure agreed with me)! We did however get family favourite – Frank & Dave to perform for the cocktail hour!

This early Spring wedding was one of the loveliest weddings that I’ve been a part of to date. Not only was it beautiful but it was thoughtful and full of thoughtful details, and they partnered with some of the best creative partners in Chicago. When you have a team of vendors as strong as R+T’s was, it gave not only them, but all of us working with these two (and their bridal party and  wonderful families) the ability to also enjoy their day and have fun serving such an outstanding group!

I hope you enjoy experiencing this day through Tim & Bethany’s camera lens as I do!

Such a fun and memorable wedding! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it Rachel, Tyler, Alan & Suzanne.  I hope you’re able to take a moment and watch your wedding video.
